FAQs - Host Families
Frequently asked questions about host families:

Is there a minimum night stay in host families?
Yes, the minimum night stay is 2 nights. There is no maximum night stay.
What meals are included?
Groups can choose to have half board (continental breakfast and cooked dinner) or full board (including packed lunch).
How many students can stay in a family?
We place students in 2s, 3s and 4s per family. Leaders of the same sex usually share a twin room, otherwise a single room will be provided.
What if the leaders and/or driver don’t want to stay in a family?
We can book a guest house or hotel at a reasonable price. This option would suit leaders who want their own en-suite room.
Are families centrally located?
Not normally as the cost would be too high. Most centres are 3-6 kilometres from the town/city centre.
Are students picked up and dropped off each morning and evening?
Most families will pick up and drop off students at a meeting point each morning and evening. Some centres don’t offer this service and public transport will be used to get to and from the meeting point
What are the meeting times?
In the mornings meeting times are 08h00 – 08h30. This cannot be changed as families need to go to work. In the evenings most meeting times are at 18h30. If a group want to come back later we will need to be notified well in advance. For late nights, dinner won’t be provided in the families, instead groups will get an extra packed lunch.
Are all families native English?
Not all families were born in the UK, especially in our London centres. However, all families are British and speak fluent English. We never discriminate against race or religion.
Are students allowed out in the evening?
This depends on the ages of the students and if the centre will allow it. We must be notified well in advance if students want to go out in the evening and must have approval by the group leader.
What happens if I want to change my family?
If a complaint is justified, the students will be moved to a replacement family. The group leader may be asked to visit the family to verify facts.
