Canterbury
3 nights Host Family or Hostel/Hotel
Canterbury is probably England’s most famous Cathedral City. The town has pre-Roman and Roman origins and in AD603 the first cathedral was built here. Many people also know Canterbury because of Chaucer’s “The Canterbury Tales”, written in the 14th Century, and still popular today. |
In the morning take the ferry from Calais to Dover or coach transfer from any London airport to Canterbury via Dover. On arrival in Dover visit Dover Castle & Secret Wartime Tunnels. Travel deep into the White Cliffs of Dover into the labyrinth of secret wartime tunnels and see where military personnel were stationed during World War II. Smells, sounds and film clips recreate the atmosphere of Britain during World War II. Above ground witness the castle in preparation for the arrival of Henry VIII and experience castle life during a medieval siege. 18h30 - Arrival at host family meeting point in Canterbury and meet your host family or arrive at your chosen hostel or hotel.
Spend the whole day in Canterbury visiting the magnificent Cathedral in the morning. Ever since the murder of Archbishop Thomas Becket in the Cathedral in 1170, Canterbury has attracted thousands of pilgrims. There has been a Cathedral on this site for 1400 years. In the afternoon visit the Canterbury Tales Visitor Attraction, step back 500 years to join Geoffrey Chaucer and his colourful characters as they journey from London towards the shrine of Sir Thomas Beckett at Canterbury Cathedral and enjoy their medieval adventure stories.

Oxford
4 nights Host Family or Hostel/Hotel
Oxford is renowned as one of England's two great university towns, steeped in history and tradition. The university is not a campus but a collection of 36 colleges and 5 halls scattered around the city centre alongside the shops and offices of commercial Oxford. Recently Oxford has also become famous for another reason – many of the cities buildings were used in the Harry Potter films! |

Full day in Oxford including “Oxford Past & Present” guided walking tour in English or your own native language and entrance to Christchurch College, the largest of the Oxford colleges, here you can get a glimpse of student life at one for the worlds most prestigious universities. The dining room at Christchurch College was used as the dining room in the Harry Potter films! In the afternoon drive 8 miles north of Oxford to the small town of Woodstock to visit Blenheim Palace - Blenheim Palace is an important part of British's heritage, and is still lived in and greatly cared for by the family for whom it was built. Within its walls Sir Winston Churchill was born over 100 years ago. His memory is celebrated in a newly refurbished exhibition with the opportunity to view his birth room.
Full day excursion to “Shakespeare’s Country” including a visit to Warwick famous for its magnificent Castle which is over 1000 years but still immaculately maintained with magnificent towers and ramparts, and Shakespeare’s Birthplace in Stratford-upon-Avon for a fascinating insight into Shakespeare’s life and times.

Brighton

Brighton is one of the most popular towns on the south coast. It is a laid-back town with a cosmopolitan mixture of residents. This famous resort developed as a result of the 18th-century health fad for sea bathing. The most impressive building is the eccentric Royal Pavilion built in 1787 for the Prince Regent. |
In the morning take the ferry from Calais-Dover. or coach transfer from any London airport to Brighton via Dover. Spend the morning exploring Brighton, including a visit to the Royal Pavilion, then drive through the Sussex countryside to nearby Hastings and a visit to Smugglers Adventures in Hastings, here you can explore acres of caverns deep in the heart of West Hill and discover Hastings thrilling history of smugglers, bootleggers and ruthless gangs.
Day excursion to the New Forest, a lovely area close to Southampton covering 92,000 acres of forest and heathland. The New Forest is famous for its 2000 wild ponies that are free to roam the parkland. Visit Bucklers Hard, a small village located on the banks of the river where ships of the 18th century Royal Navy were constructed and launched, the village has been faithfully reconstructed and is now a living museum depicting life here in the 18th Century.

Bath

Bath has fantastic Georgian architecture, the beautifully preserved Roman Baths, and is surrounded by beautiful Somerset countryside. The city has been designated a World Heritage Site. |
In the morning take the ferry from Calais-Dover or coach transfer from any London airport to Bath.
18h30 – Arrival at host family meeting point in Bath or at youth hostel.
A full day in Bath to include entrance to the famous Roman Baths in the morning. The Baths are one of Europe ’s finest ancient monuments, you can walk where Romans walked on ancient stone pavements and imagine the grandeur of Aquae Sulis, as Bath was called by the Romans. In the afternoon visit the Jane Austen Centre, many of her novels are set in and around Bath and she lived in the city between 1801 and 1804.
In the morning visit the World Heritage sight of Stonehenge. In the afternoon visit Salisbury, a lovely market town and its Cathedral – which is Britain’s tallest Cathedral!

Cardiff

Cardiff, the capital city of Wales, is a city of contrasts. A castle with 1900 years of history stands alongside a modern shopping centre and one of the world's great civic centres. Hundreds of acres of beautiful parkland reach into the very heart of the city. There are many castles in and around Cardiff - a reminder that for centuries this was a turbulent frontier land. Mountains and beaches are only a short drive away, yet Cardiff offers all the facilities expected of a capital city: excellent shopping, good restaurants, live theatre, opera and concert halls, art galleries and museums. |

In the morning Visit the National Museum of Wales, a museum dedicated to the history of this interesting country. In the afternoon visit the open-air Welsh Folk Museum, this museum shows how the people of Wales lived, worked and spent their leisure time over the last five hundred years. The Museum stands in the grounds of the magnificent St Fagans Castle, a late 16th century manor house generously donated to the people of Wales by the Earl of Plymouth.
In the morning take a drive to the Brecon Beacons National Park, situated amongst hills and mountains, the Park covers an area of 1347 sq km. Wales is famous for its mining heritage and in the afternoon visit the Big Pit Mining Museum, this is a real coal mine and one of the UK’s leading mining museums, with facilities to educate and entertain all ages, Big Pit guarantees an exciting and informative day out.
Leave Wales for transfer back to Dover to take the ferry back home or coach transfer back to Airport.

Edinburgh
4 nights host family or hostel/hotel
Edinburgh is Scotland’s capital, a World Heritage City and home of the world’s largest international arts festival, which takes place every August. The historic city of Edinburgh is set on a series of volcanic hills which form fine viewpoints around the city. The city is made up of two contrasting towns. The old town is based around Castle Rock and is dominated by the Castle - a royal residence from the 11th century. The new town with its elegant streets and squares was built between 1767 and 1830. Edinburgh is a very compact city and within 30 minutes drive you can find yourself in the spectacular Scottish countryside. Edinburgh is often combined with a stay in London. The train service between the 2 cities is quick (average journey time is 4.5 hours) and group rates are very competitive. |
Arrival in Edinburgh – the best ferry crossing to take is the service from Amsterdam – Newcastle.
For groups arriving by air into Edinburgh, coach transfer to accommodation. For groups arriving into London airports we can arrange train tickets to ad from London to Edinburgh.
Full day to explore Edinburgh including entrance to Edinburgh Castle which houses the Honours (Crown Jewels) of Scotland, the Stone of Destiny, the famous 15th century gun Mons Meg, the One O' Clock Gun and the National War Museum of Scotland. Walk down the Royal Mile to reach the Palace of Holyrood House, this fine baroque palace is the Queen’s official residence in Scotland.
Full day excursion to Loch Lomond – which is situated just an hour from Edinburgh. Enjoy a boat trip on the loch. Visit the Trossachs, the dramatic scenery of the Trossachs is said to be the inspiration behind Sir Walter Scott's The Lady of the Lake.
Another day in Edinburgh to visit Royal Yacht Britannia and the National Museum. Optional Ghost walking tour of Edinburgh in the evening.
Morning visit to the town of Stirling which is located just to the north of Edinburgh. This area is famous for William Wallace (Braveheart) who rebelled against Edward I’s reign in Scotland in the 13th century. Highlights include a visit to see the Wallace (Braveheart) Monument the Battlefield at Bannockburn, and a visit to Stirling Castle. Overlooking two of Scotland's most historic battlefields, Stirling Bridge and Bannockburn, the Royal Castle of Stirling has been at the centre of the nation's history since it was built. The Great Hall has been recently refurbished to reflect its appearance at the end of the Middle Ages.
Transfer back to the airport or train station or depart back to ferry port for journey home.

Ferry crossing from Calais – Dover or coach transfer from any London airport to your chosen accommodation.
Full day tour in London. In the morning enjoy a panoramic tour of London with your own guide. In the afternoon enjoy a river cruise down the Thames from Embankment Pier to Greenwich Pier. Spend the rest of the afternoon in Greenwich, home to the National Maritime Museum and Royal Observatory.
In the morning visit world famous Madame Tussauds, Baker Street, home to Sherlock Holmes and nearby Regents Park. In the afternoon visit the Egyptian collection at the British Museum, followed by shopping on Oxford Street.
In the morning visit one of London’s many free museums, you could choose to visit the dinosaurs at the Natural History Museum and view the famous paintings in the National Gallery. In the afternoon visit the lively South Bank area of London (home to attractions such as Tate Modern Art Gallery, Shakespeare’s Globe Exhibition, the London Eye and the London Aquarium) and walk across the Millennium Bridge to St Pauls Cathedral.
